This site was designed to answer questions, provide facts, theory, and pedagogy, and hopefully lead professional and non-professional singers to the answers for the many questions they have regarding technique and vocal care. Since information is ever changing, you will find that we update the site weekly by adding more technical tips, virtual voice lessons for download, recommended reading, repertoire for all voice types- particularly the more legit voice looking for cross-over material, and links to many fun and helpful sites on the internet. Please check back with us periodically to see what new and interactive bits we've added. This promises to be an informative and fun journey for all of us.
There is no mystery to singing. The biggest breakthroughs I've ever witnessed seemed to have their core turning point through simplification. I had an excellent coach in New York City, Kathy Olsen-Simpson, whom I respected very much tell me periodically that I "was trying to paint eyelashes on the Mona Lisa! Leave it alone. It's perfect just the way it wants to come out." Simplify, simplify, and then simplify some more.
When asked, Enrico Caruso explained the mystery of his own singing and his success to: "A big chest, a big mouth, 90 percent memory, 10 percent intelligence, lots of hard work, and something in the heart."
So no matter what a coach or teacher or web site tells you about your quality or style or figure or musicality or any perceived lack of voice- remember what Enrico Caruso said about his whole art form. That quote always brought me back down to earth and back to hard work.
Let's not forget that we do it because we love it!
"...lots of hard work, and something in the heart." E. Caruso
